When, why, and, how to say ’YES’

The strategic ’Yes’

Agreeing with something does not have to an immediate reaction. It is perfectly fine to get all the necessary information before agreeing into anything. Take your time and remember that a well-timed 'Yes' can work wonders and help you to navigate complex situations.

In the realm of strategic affirmations, the power of a well-executed ’Yes’ extends beyond mere agreement. It becomes a pivotal tool to initiate discussions about goals and expectations, laying the groundwork for a seamless journey ahead. This strategic ’Yes’ sets the stage for effective communication and collaboration, ensuring a harmonious start to endeavors that demand mutual understanding and shared objectives.

The ’Yes, however’

Also known as the fancy version of ’Yes, but’, this subtle yet impactful approach involves expressing gratitude for the presented opportunity while subtly acknowledging potential complexities.

For instance, when confronted with a request tethered to unrealistic timelines, the affirmative response incorporates an understanding nod to urgency. It refrains from an outright refusal but serves as a gateway to initiate a collaborative dialogue. This signifies a willingness to engage in constructive discussions aimed at finding a middle ground that accommodates both parties involved.

Moreover, the 'Yes, however' approach transforms the act of agreement into a strategic tool for negotiation and compromise. It articulates openness to exploring terms and conditions that foster mutual understanding. By steering away from a flat denial, this response becomes a catalyst for constructive problem-solving, demonstrating a commitment to reaching agreements aligned with the needs and considerations of all parties.

The ’HELL YES’

There are also times when going strart to a ’Yes’ with a lot of enthusiasm and even going so far as making the ’Yes’ into a ’HELL YES’. Some things are easy starters for a ’HELL YES’. It safe to say ’HELL YES’ for example to networking opportunities. Usually networking is useful or at least fun, so the ’HELL YES’ won’t be wasted. Also, if a collaboration opportunity presents itself, a ’HELL YES’ is in order. If you can compliment your skill set with someone with different expertise, it’s always worth a shot as usually the best results are created in collaboration. One more safe bet for a ’HELL YES’ is the opportunity to have someone as your mentor. No need to consider what ifs or be strategic, you can never have too many mentors.

Sometimes going for a ’HELL YES’ might be taking you out of your confort zone. Should you go for a stretch assignment or a demanding task? Should you go for a new job without knowing if the change is for better? Should accept a role with more responsibility or along with a crazy idea? Sometimes it’s the best not to consider the details and take a leap of faith and go: "HELL YES, and let's add glitter to make it extra fabulous!"
