Jenn’s Creative Journey: From California to Denmark (Soon!)

It All Started with a Bag…

A really unique, pretty bag that looked like a magic book appeared at one of our Career Club DK events last year (the Dress for Success event, to be more precise), and my little geek heart was captured…

I had to find the owner of that bag!

After a while, I found her—Jenn!

We ended up talking for hours that day (she is that friendly and inspiring).

Over the past year, I've had the pleasure of seeing her work firsthand as part of the Career Club DK board. When you see Jenn’s surroundings, it’s like her bag: unique, creative, and so very much… her.

Now, a year later, we finally got a chance to sit down together and talk about art, design, books, and of course, Denmark (not necessarily in that order).

Jenn’s artistic journey isn’t just something she does for work; it’s who she is.

She’s been crafting her own creative narrative for years, working on everything from product labels to promotional design.

Currently, she’s creating a vampire-themed comic, a project that she’s incredibly passionate about.

A Creative Start: Where It All Began

Jenn’s creative journey didn’t start in Denmark, though. It all began in the United States, where she grew up. Raised in California, Jenn was surrounded by the creative energy of the West Coast, but she felt a pull toward something different—something that could truly foster her artistic spirit.

As a kid, she was constantly drawing and creating—her passion for art was clear from the start.

"Growing up in California was great, but I always felt like I was looking for something that allowed me to dig deeper into art and design," she shared.

Her search for an environment that aligned with her creative passions led her to Denmark—and more specifically, to Århus.

"When I moved to Århus for my studies, it was a total shift in perspective," Jenn explained. "It’s different, but in a good way. Århus has a vibe that feels so open, so creative. It’s the kind of place where I felt grounded, and that was exactly what I needed for my career."

Art, Design, and Human Connection

Jenn’s creative career has been just as bold and dynamic as her imagination. She’s dived into everything from branding to product packaging, promotional design, and even UX/UI work—constantly finding new ways to bring ideas to life.

"I’ve worked on so many different projects—designing everything from product labels to T- shirt designs," Jenn shared.

"One of my favorite challenges was working on packaging designs inspired by the Stranger Things aesthetic. I haven’t seen the show myself, but I loved exploring the visual language of it and figuring out why it connects so deeply with people."

While UX/UI design isn’t her main focus, Jenn has worked on web layouts and design flows, including her own portfolio site. "I like how it ties into other creative areas—it’s all about how things look, feel, and function together," she said.

For Jenn, everything she creates—whether it’s a design, a product, or a piece of art—is about human connection.

"I think good design and good storytelling are about making people feel something," she shared. "That’s always my goal."

The Vampire Comic: More Than Just Aesthetic

Speaking of storytelling, Jenn’s latest project is one she’s particularly passionate about—her own vampire-themed comic.

"It’s been such a rewarding challenge," Jenn said. "I love vampire stories, but I wanted to do something different with it. I’m using the vampire theme as a way to explore bigger concepts—morality, sexuality, trans and queer identities, trauma, mental health, and feminist issues."

For Jenn, the horror and fantasy elements of the comic provide a perfect vehicle to discuss real-life issues in a unique way.

"One of the things I’m excited to explore is how vampire lore ties into women’s reproductive health and bodily autonomy," she explained. "There are so many layers to it, and I love being able to use a genre I enjoy to talk about things that really matter."

Her passion for this project is obvious when she talks about it, and it’s clear that storytelling is at the heart of everything she does. You can get a preview of the vampire comic at this website: https://www.caffeinebloodstream.com/

A Future in Denmark: Creative Possibilities

Jenn’s love for Denmark is clear. It’s the place where she feels like she can truly thrive as both an artist and a human being.

"I’ve always felt like Denmark is the place I could settle down and grow," she shared. "When I’m over here, I feel like I’m already living my ideal life. It’s the simplicity of it all—the ability to walk around, go to a cafe, or just explore a city without the stress of traffic. Denmark allows me to focus on my creativity in a way that feels seamless."

As Jenn looks ahead to the next chapter in her journey, she is excited to dive deeper into her comic creation and other design projects.

“I’m hoping to move to Denmark soon,” she said with a smile. “I’ve met so many great people already, and the Career Club has been a huge part of helping me feel like I belong here. It’s such a welcoming and inspiring community.”

Her experience with Career Club DK has made a significant impact on her journey, especially when it comes to feeling supported and inspired.

"Career Club DK has helped me connect with people who understand where I’m coming from creatively and professionally," Jenn said. "It’s a place where I can share my journey, get feedback, and be inspired by others’ paths."

Denmark: A Place to Call Home

Looking to the future, Jenn sees Denmark as the place where she can continue to explore her creative passions.

"I see myself living here and continuing to grow creatively."

For Jenn, Denmark offers more than just a place to live—it offers the opportunity to thrive.

"I want to create work that connects with people, and I want to be part of a culture that values creativity and human-centered design. I feel like Denmark offers that in a way that other places just can’t."

The Road Ahead: Art, Design, and New Possibilities

As Jenn continues to develop her comic and explore other creative avenues, Denmark will undoubtedly play a major role in her artistic evolution.

"There’s something about the Danish approach to life that resonates with me. It’s simple, functional, and human-centered," Jenn shared. "That’s the kind of work I want to create, and I’m excited to see how my journey continues here."

The future is bright for Jenn, and as she makes her mark in the creative world, we can’t wait to see where her passion for storytelling, design, and human-centered art takes her next.

People are my passion, and somehow, it became my career path by accident.

Uncovering and nurturing unique talents is what I thrive on.

Originally aiming for a career in environmental sciences or scientific illustration, I found myself consistently "drafted" into teaching and instructing roles, thanks to my multidisciplinary background.

Motivating others comes naturally to me, fueled by empathy and a deep understanding that we all learn differently.

Throughout various titles and roles over the past couple of decades, one thing remained constant - my focus on roles that put people at the center.

Realizing the fulfillment in helping others reach their full potential, I've wholeheartedly embraced a career in people development and learning. As the global head of training and talent development for a high-paced startup, I excel in fostering environments where everyone feels valued and connected.
